W is for Walkies

Many people take their cats for walks on leashes, especially in Finland which is a country of cat lovers but with a high number of apartments without gardens.

It's a common sight to see people out and about with their cats. Katariina is one woman who regularly takes her pet out.

"We do have a garden but it is very small," she said.

"My cat Aarii loves it outdoors but I feel she needs to have wider horizons than our garden and needs more exercise. I take her out on a leash every other day for a long walk in the park.

"She loves it and she does all the things she does at home, exploring under bushes, rolling in the dust and checking out the birds. There's one long wall where she jumps up and walks along it. She's become a bit of an attraction for some of the local children - and, boy, does she show off!"

Unfortunately, not all cats like to be on a leash!:

My sassy, grumpy cat Toffee is also taking part in the A to Z Challenge. Take a look here: www.notsosweettoffee.com

  1. My Velvet doesn't mind the harness, to go out on the deck or lay on the grass, not for walks. She's not used to outside, so is too nervous.

  2. A cat on a leash... Yeah, not many cats would put up with that. But I suppose if one acclimates them to it...

My cat definitely wouldn't put up with it but I think if you started off your cat very young they would, as you say, get used to it.

  3. So cute! My Rusty is a former barn cat, but stays mostly inside since I adopted him. Sometimes he really wants to go out, but he knows that means wearing a harness & leash so he'll paw at them hanging on their hook! And I walk around the yard with him.

Not participating in the A to Z this year, but am still visiting blogs. Congrats on making it to the homestretch!

Rusty obviously knows which side his bread is buttered! I've got two blogs in the A to Z and must admit it's been a bit of a challenge as it was a last minute decision to participate so I didn't have chance to do many in advance.

  4. Love that they take their cats for walks instead of just letting them walk free. I love that cat who just will not walk with that leash on....too funny

  5. When she moved in off the streets I tried to put our first cat Luna in a harness to show her off at the pet store. ~wince~ That one time was the last. The poor dear wriggled out of it in the car.

  6. Our Lucy who is 10 years old now loves to get on the leash and take us for walks! She is such a fun cat! We are lucky to have her in our lives.
